Situation:
- An information system where it can be visualized the traffic infrastructure and communications of the micro region.
- A system that allows a fast access to information referred to the geography of each one of the cities and towns belonging to the micro-region.
- A system where all the information referred to the social and economical potential of each city and town and the micro-region can be exposed. That all mayors handle the same tools when taking decisions.
This is a long-term project. In the short time it is intended to develop a web access so that all institutions have access to the information.
Solution:
gvSIG was used to:
- Create maps of traffic infrastructure and public services.
- To digitalize urban view of each city and town and assign all available data referred to the urban furniture they possess.
- Visualize the geographic surface that occupies the whole micro-region and its potential wealth.
- Assign socioeconomic information available.
Benefits:
- Use of free software, that allowed to focus the cost of the Project to the essential part of it.
- Generate a project that can scale up with low costs, and friendly access to information for non specialists.
- To Free participant organizations of the difficult payment of licenses that in the end provide the same results we got using gvSIG
