gvSIG Desktop

gvSIG is a Geographic Information System (GIS) desktop application designed for capturing, storing, handling, analysing and deploying any kind of referenced geographic information in order to solve complex management and planning problems. gvSIG is known for its user-friendly interface and being able to access all common vector and raster formats. It features a wide range of tools for working with geographic information (query, layout creation, geoprocessing, networks, etc.), which turns gvSIG into the ideal tool for users working in the land realm.

gvSIG and the Project Campus

Situation: 

Campus project was initiated with a goal to prove that open source tools can successfully be used in public administration, and bring more benefit in total compared to commercial solutions.

As a part of a wider project of Land Administration in Bosnia & Hercegovina, it concentrated on a desktop application suitable for editing and maintenance of geospatial data in a Cadastre office. Data are stored within open source Postgresql database.

gvSIG for coastal management

There was a GIS developed using MapObjects that supported shape and dxf data formats. It was necessary to migrate to a free GIS and develop more functionalities:

  • Development of a GIS to manage geoinformation related to the Valencian coast
  • Use of a spatial database and access to it through OGC services
  • Development of not georeferred image analysis tools
